Surely, I’m not the only person who is constantly cold? Since having my son, I tend to run hotter and don’t get cold as easily unless I’m sitting at my desk working for hours – which is what happens for me most weekdays. Being cold is no fun and I was tired of wrapping myself uncomfortably in blankets that would inevitably fall off so… I created the Sunrise Poncho!
Oversized, warm and cozy, this poncho feels like you’re wearing a blanket but in a cute and fashionable way. It’s perfect to wear around town, in the office or to lounge in at home.
The best part is that this pattern is size-inclusive and made to fit every body (we’re talking XXS to 5XL).

Skill level: Beginner
Materials and notions:
Needles
8 mm, 30″ circular knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge
Yarn
Lion Brand Homespun which is a level 5, bulky yarn in 4 colours.

Notions
Gauge: In garter stitch: 4”x4” (10cm x 10cm) = 11 stitches across x 19 rows high.
Sizing chart: This poncho is meant to be very oversized. To give you an idea: model is 5′-7″, with a 34” bust and normally wears size small clothing and is in size B.

Notes:
- Construction: This project is worked in rows back and forth. You’ll start with the back panel, then put some stitches on hold for the right panel before casting off some stitches for the neck space and working with the leftover stitches back and forth to create the front left panel. You’ll then re-attach the yarn and knit back and forth to create the front right panel.
- Feel free to play with the colors or even made this poncho a single color if you find color changes too intimidating or want to save yourself some ends to weave in.
- The Sl1Pwyif at the beginning of each row helps keep the edge of the cardigan looking nice and neat (no bumpy edges here).
Abbreviations:
- K: knit
- Sl1Pwyif: slip one stitch from left needle onto right needle purlwise with yarn held in front.
- CO: cast off

Oversized, warm and cozy, this poncho feels like you’re wearing a blanket but in a cute and fashionable way. It’s perfect to wear around town, in the office or to lounge in at home.

Striped patterns are so fun to make because they tend to work up quickly. You’ll be telling yourself just one more stripe, over and over and you’ll be done before you even realize!

Homespun yarn isn’t always a favorite due to its texture, but I find it much easier to work with when knitting and it truly creates the coziest fabric.

Who doesn’t dream of being snuggled in a blanket while working, this poncho feels like that but in an office setting appropriate way that actually looks good!
