Ep. 12 Knitflix: Shows to watch while knitting & crocheting! – Drop a stitch podcast
I think it’s safe to say most of us are constantly looking for new shows to watch in general but finding a good show to watch while knitting or crocheting is even harder! In today’s episode, we share the current shows we are watching while working on projects, our tried-and-true go-to and even what we’re currently reading.
How was your week?
Nathalie
- We have a crawler! Theo has been somewhat crawling around for a couple weeks now, but mainly around his playmat or to reach high interest things. In the last few days however, he’s started army crawling around the entire main floor to explore (he’s so curious) and follow us.
- On April 8th, 2024, was the eclipse, we weren’t in the path of totality, but Eric had ordered glasses for us to look at it anyways. It was fun, as underwhelming as I expected but also kind of cool. We took Theo outside with us though he didn’t ever look up at the sun, it was fun to sit outside as a family and see it happen. I didn’t expect the glasses to make such a difference, but we could see it so well with them on. I’m planning on saving a pair with the date and putting it in Theo’s souvenir box, maybe one day he’ll watch another with the same glasses!
Dani
- She put the finishing touches on the Riverbed Blanket: the pattern is fully written up and the video tutorial is recorded and edited.
- Though she didn’t get any glasses Dani had also prepared herself for the eclipse. She’d told the kids it would get dark thinking at 98% totality; it would be pretty dark outside, close to nighttime you know? Unfortunately, it never got quite that dark, it got this eery kind of dark, where everything was still bright enough to see but not sunny if that makes sense. Even the streetlights in her street didn’t know if it was daytime or nighttime and kept turning on and off.
What did you buy this week?
Nathalie
- Baby gates of course! We got a pressure mounted one for the bottom of the stairs (this one) and a screwed in one for the kitchen (this one) simply because that opening is bigger so we needed the added strength.
Dani
- Though she didn’t buy anything this week, Dani is seriously considering ordering the Dyson Airwrap after watching many videos of people showing the various things you can do with it.
What are you working on?
Nathalie
- I’m still working on my podcast project aka: the Flax Light Sweater from Tin Can Knits, using Illimani Sabri yarn in color Fawn. It’s getting there though, there are only a few inches left to go on the body before it’s time for the ribbing. Then of course there will still be the sleeves, but one thing at a time!
Dani
- She started working on Cale’s Christmas sweater. If you missed it; every year we make the kid’s holiday themed sweaters for Christmas and take a picture of them together, however, this year, we decided to make Ron sweaters (from Harry Potter) for the entire family. But Dani is just knitting for fun because minutes before we started recording, she asked if we could change patterns, this still needs to be decided on.
Now let’s talk about today’s subject – Knitflix: Shows to watch while knitting & crocheting!
While we both agree that trashy reality TV shows are the best to watch while working on a project, since you barely have to pay them any attention to understand what’s happening (shows like Love Is Blind which we watched together while knitting/crocheting in Chile or like 90-day fiancé which used to be Dani’s go-to back when she still had cable).
Second to that are shows or movies you’ve already watched so many times or that have episodes that don’t necessarily follow each other (where you can basically put on any episode and still understand exactly what’s happening). A few examples for us are Friends and How I Met Your Mother.
We also both agree that we can watch more involved shows or movies while knitting than crocheting.
What Dani is currently watching?
- The Good Doctor (available on Crave) is Dani’s show of the moment. It’s got tons of seasons and follows a doctor who has some level of autism and because of that, he can solve problems way faster than any other person without disability. His way of thinking is just different but it’s really good because it allows him to figure out what’s happening with the patient faster. It’s of course not only about the patient cases but also about what’s happening between him and his coworkers and the other doctors at the hospital with most of it set in the OR. The way he moves and acts is also very interesting. The show allows you to learn more about autism but on a different level and in a different way which is also cool.
- She also loves watching True Crime, especially this one girl on YouTube. The channel is called True Crime with Kendall Rae and the way things are presented really speak to Dani. However, this isn’t a show for crocheting (unless you’re working a repetitive pattern in the spaces between the stitches or something like that), you need a simple repetitive project barely requiring you to look down.
What Nathalie is currently watching?
I’m currently watching 3 shows:
- Big Brother Canada is the first and you can watch it through the Global TV app). It’s a reality TV show where they basically put 12-16 people (depending on the year) in a house and every week a person gets voted out. There are competitions where you can win the title of HOH (Head of Household aka the person choosing which two people are in danger of elimination) or the Power of Veto (which gives you the power to remove yourself or someone else from the chopping block). Everybody will vote on who they want to leave between the two left on the block and that person is evicted and goes home. Some competitions are mental, some are physical, but the game as a whole also requires social skills so it’s a fun mix of personalities and manipulations and just basic human behaviors.
- The other reality TV show I’m watching is The Kardashians (on Disney +). I was influenced by my cousin to watch this; I started back on season 10 and have slowly worked my way up to current episodes since I’ve been on maternity leave (I’m on the latest season currently).
- The last show I’m currently watching is Lucifer on Netflix. It’s about Lucifer Morningstar which is the actual Devil. His dad – God – sent him to hell but he essentially quit his job and came on earth. He has this power where he looks at you and that makes you want to admit things to him. He ends up meeting this detective working a murder case and helping her out thanks to his power. He keeps tagging along with her and helping her. He also has this thing where every girl is attracted to him and wants to sleep with him except for that detective which drives him nuts. It’s funny too. I’m not too far into it, just a few episodes but it’s good so far.
While we’re here, let’s talk about what we are reading!
- Dani just started A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
- Nathalie just finished November 9 by Colleen Hoover
