Are you a one-project-at-a-time or a multiple-projects-on-the-go person? Personally, I like to have at least one mindless project and one quick make for every intricate project that requires focus. That way, I can pick and choose depending on my mood.
The Morning Tide Blanket Scarf is one of those mindless projects that you can work on anywhere. With its rhythmic texture and generous size, this scarf is less about rushing to the finish line and more about enjoying each stitch as it comes. It’s the kind of knit that fits beautifully into quiet mornings, evening unwinds after the kids are in bed and those in-between moments when your hands crave something comforting and familiar.
This beginner-friendly project is worked in a simple stitch that has just enough interest to keep things engaging from cast-on to bind-off.
Construction: The Morning Tide Blanket Scarf is knit flat from end to end using worsted weight yarn, creating a richly textured fabric that is fully reversible and beautifully balanced on both sides.
Worked in three complementary colours, this scarf is exceptionally soft with an elegant drape, making it a cozy, wearable piece you’ll reach for again and again.

Skill level: Beginner
Materials:
Needles
5.5mm (US size 9), straight or 24″ circular knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge
Notions
Yarn
I used Lion Brand Re-Make yarn which is a Worsted weight (size 4) yarn. The pictures in this pattern show this yarn in the following colours:
- Colour A: Chestnut
- Colour B: Seaspray
- Colour C: Hazelnut
You will need 2 skeins or at least 423 yds (388 m/ 195 g) of each colour.
Not ready to knit just yet? Pin it so you can come back to it later!

Gauge: In pattern repeat: 4”x4” (10cm x 10cm) = 17 stitches across x 25 rows high.
Final measurements: The finished scarf should measure 22″ (56 cm) in width and 78″ (198 cm) in length.
Notes:
- To change the width of the scarf, add or remove stitches but make sure that your new cast on number is a multiple of 2. To change the length of the scarf, add or remove repeats of rows 1-4 equally across each of the 3 colours.
- This scarf is fully reversible as the Irish moss texture is looks identical from both sides.
Abbreviations and special stitches:
- CO – cast on
- St(s) – stitch(es)
- K – knit
- P – purl
- BO – bind off

Pattern:
Using 5.5 mm (US size 9) needles, colour A and the long tail cast-on method, CO 96 sts.
Row 1 (RS): [K1, P1], repeat sequence in [] across the row.
Row 2 (WS): [K1, P1], repeat sequence in [] across the row.
Row 3 (RS): [P1, K1], repeat sequence in [] across the row.
Row 4 (WS): [P1, K1], repeat sequence in [] across the row.
Repeat rows 1-4 an additional 40 more times for a total of 41 times. Your scarf should now measure roughly 26″ (66 cm) in length.
Change to colour B, repeat rows 1 to 4 a total of 41 times. Your scarf should now measure roughly 52″ (132 cm) in length.
Change to colour C, repeat rows 1 to 4 a total of 40 times then repeat rows 1 to 3 and BO in pattern (knits over knits and purls over purls).
Your scarf should now measure roughly 78″ (198 cm) in length. Weave in ends and enjoy your new scarf.

Re-Make yarn has a beautiful haze/halo effect reminiscent of mohair and is incredibly soft resulting in a lovely drape and softness.

Choosing a recycled yarn for this design felt especially meaningful to me – it’s a small way to create something beautiful while being a little more thoughtful about what we make.

My hope is that each row gives you a moment to pause from your busy life and helps your knitting feel grounding again. And when it’s finished, wrap it around your shoulders, style it as a scarf or wear it as a cozy layer on cool days.
